民進黨主席蘇貞昌6日8日啟程赴美，14日為民進黨駐美代表處揭牌，恰巧中國國家主席習近平8日、9日也在美國訪問，引起揣測。民進黨國際事務部主任劉世忠今（28）日表示，純屬巧合，兩人不會遇到，但民進黨會密切注意習近平的動作。

蘇貞昌去年參選黨主席時，提出恢復民進黨駐美代表處的政見。民進黨駐美代表吳釗燮與劉世忠今天召開記者會，宣布蘇貞昌6月8日將啟程前往美加訪問，14日為民進黨駐美代表處揭牌，15日赴加拿大多倫多、16日飛溫哥華，預定18日返抵台灣。

吳釗燮表示，蘇貞昌這次將走訪美國洛杉磯、紐約、休士頓、華盛頓，以及加拿大多倫多、溫哥華等6個城市，進行國會外交、智庫外交，與美加議員座談、宴會，並與台灣僑胞互動，而14日將為民進黨駐美代表處揭牌，並舉辦開幕酒會。

吳釗燮透露，蘇貞昌也受邀赴戰略暨國際研究中心（Center for Strategic and International Studies, CSIS）與布魯金斯研究所（Brookings Institution）發表演講，闡述民進黨觀點的台美關係。

劉世忠表示，美方認為民進黨很可能在2016重新執政，希望與民進黨建立關係，而美國眾議院外交委員會主席羅艾斯（Royce, Ed）也將舉辦酒會，歡迎蘇貞昌。

另外，吳釗燮也坦言，目前正值歐巴馬亞太相關的新人事交替，民進黨希望美方新人事就任之初，就能夠讓美方了解民進黨，並強化台美雙方關係。
